Any better ideas, though, and I'm all ears. The second your pointer is over the bar, command-tab is back. So to get out of Windows, you no longer have to point at the top of the screen and wait for the toolbar to drop, which does take a non-trivial amount of time.
Interestingly, if you so much as hover your mouse over the minibar, your alt-tab that was command-tab becomes command-tab again. Now you've got this guy sitting on the left side (or wherever you finally position it) of your screen.
